Hello, friends and supporters,
We have been looking forward to scheduling your Mindport visit during the coming holiday weeks. We know how many of you look forward to these days off as a chance to explore downtown Bellingham. We are excited to share our new exhibits with you during the quiet winter months, but we are writing with some sad news this week.
Over the weekend, we discovered a major leak in our boiler system which heats and cools the building. It’s now clear that this leak has been quietly causing serious damage to the wooden floor in our gallery area. We currently have large holes cut open in our floor and our building is not at a comfortable heat as we work to remedy the problem.
In the spirit of caution and safety, we’ve blocked off all appointments in the coming week. We’ve been in direct contact with those of you who had already booked appointments this week. Because of ongoing labor and supply shortages in the trades, we can’t guarantee a reopening date. As soon as we can be open again, we will announce it here, online and on our doors.
We are very much looking forward to welcoming you into our revamped space, in which we balance the priorities of all-ages safety, exciting learning possibilities and contemporary art.
We’re disappointed to have to deliver this message during the holidays, but we are hoping to have the issue resolved as soon as possible. Please check in with us on our website, social media, email or by phone (360-647-5614) as you plan your time in the coming weeks.
We look forward to being able to update you soon with better news.
In the meantime, please do enjoy our newest window installation by Creative Director, Margot Myers. The piece is a rhythmic arrangement of brightly colored translucent shapes that demonstrate transparency, unity, variety and organic pattern. It is fun to see at any hour, but it is especially beautiful in full sun at just the right angle–the magic times this week are between 11-3 on sunny days, or after dark.
